Slice of Life Day Four: What's her sign?

My mother taught me about "self-fulfilling prophesies". What I took away from this wisdom: don't seek psychic advice, don't consult with mediums, don't expect to fail, and don't read horoscopes.

So during my childhood I did not know my "sign", One day while goofing off in biology class, a fellow student asked me my birthday, after I answered the question he proceeded to comment about Libras. It was the first time I had heard the word. I still think very little about my sign and it always catches me off guard when a curious friend, colleague or strangers asks me what mine is.

Now imagine my surprise when people begin asking me about my children's signs! I don't know. I do not even care or give any validation to the question. I shrug my shoulders and say I don't know, and I try to keep it to myself that I REALLY do not care.

  1. haha! I know this is a serious post but it made me laugh. My mom will call me and tell me my horoscope or remind me about it through the week. I don't know that I believe it, it's not like I spend my week looking out for Leo signs.

" it always catches me off guard when a curious friend, colleague or strangers asks me what mine is." This made me laugh. I've never had an adult I wasn't related to ask about my sign. I have a friend that needs to read your mom's advice about not putting stock in all of this.

    1. I'm glad you laughed, it may have seemed serious, but that reflects my dryer sense of humor. So I am happy that you found the humor.
I know most people don't really take it seriously, but I am still caught off guard when people draw the connection at all between signs and behavior or personality.

  2. I have a friend who use to give me the "Cosmopolitan Bedside Astrologer" for my birthday each year. Neither of us take this stuff seriously, but we had a blast drinking adult beverages and laughing as we read the book together.

    1. That's what I've heard a lot of, it's just a good laugh. I am glad that people have that experience. and I don't mean to sound judgmental.

  3. I certainly don't take it seriously, but I do find it interesting that writers of those predictive horoscopes can write in a way that so many of us can see ourselves in what they write! I guess I admire their writing prowess more than the predictive aspect of it all!

    1. I've never thought about the writer side as more than a hoax, but now that you mention it it sounds like a really interesting writing exercise.
